Skiiers and snowshoers

...it's that kind of day. The trail here at Cascading Waters has been busy all day, with cars in and out of the parking area, and hikers, snowshoers, and skiiers coming through regularly. Plenty of people out enjoying the snow and (comparatively) milder temperatures while we have them. We have as much as six inches, still, in some spots, so conditions are good.
If you were out there, though, you heard lots of dripping and trickling. Between that and tonight's forecasted rain, we won't have much snow cover for long.
Today at the Lodge it's been in the high 30's all day (35 degrees now) with humidity hovering around 50%.

WE ARE OPEN!

Thanks to more than one generous neighbor (you guys are great!), we now have a CLEARED parking area. You can park on the left as you turn into the driveway.
PLEASE be thoughtful in your parking so we can get as many people in as possible.

We've already had more than one hiker come through on the Cascades Trail. This is a light fluffy snow, so it is fun snowshoeing, but it takes some energy to cut a new path.

Bright...

A bit chillier than yesterday, but still lovely.
At 11 am, it is 48 degrees and rising
Barometer reading: 29.09 inches of mercury and steady
The stream is still above six inches, 'though most of the snow has melted, except for what's under trees in the higher elevations.

Slushy

It is very soggy out there today. Should you go out, we recommend waterproof footwear. In most cases, there is a thin snowcover that is completely water saturated. In spots, it will suddenly go up to your ankles, however.

At 9 am, it is 40 degrees and rising a bit.
Drizzling rain
The barometer is at 29.82 inches of mercury and steady
The stream is rushing past at 6 inches.
The Cascades are frozen still, but there's plenty of water coming down them, nonetheless.

Snowing...a bit

We've got a storm front moving in, so those spots that have cleared might just possibly be white by this afternoon.
The stream, which was up to 8.2 inches on Tuesday, has fallen back down again. The Cascades are running nicely, though; come by!

The trails in the higher traffic areas are slick, as the trampled snow has frozen solid. If we get some substantial snow cover, it should take care of that, but in the meantime, take care out there.

Sorry for the lack of posting this week: we've had stomach flu compounded by a failing water heater!

Snow coated landscape

The Lodge fireplace is ablaze this evening.
The warmer weather never totally materialized and the snows pasted to the sides of the trees are still in evidence.
There are spots of wet mush as well as spots of ice on the trails.
All in all it was and remains beautiful out there.

Today the USFS Fire Danger Class is: NONE (hardly a surprise there!)
Presently it is 9:25 pm and:

and the pressure is 29.47" of Hg and steady.

Slippery

The trees are now dripping, but enough freezing rain fell last night to both make a nice thick crust on top of the snow ('though not enough to walk on unless you try it in snowshoes) and to coat every cleared surface in ice. It's tough going this morning!

Rainy day

While we already saw one enthusiastic golden lab go through with a walker this morning, we're imagining that there won't be many more today. While it is not actively raining now, it did quite a bit last night (.35 inches) and will again later.

There's very little snow cover left, but LOTS of mud!

Cascades are roaring

Between the rain and the continued snowmelt, the Cascades are roaring full force today. You can hear them inside the Lodge with all the windows closed. Even if you aren't up for a hike, take a cruise down Cataract Street and check them out!
We've had .67 inches of rain today. The bartometer continues to fall.

Storm coming in today

The barometer is falling this morning and the animals outside are busy. A storm is coming in this afternoon.
The temperature outside is 25 degrees. Humidity is 64% this morning.
There's cloud cover already.
The snow remains crunchy this morning. Depending on what the precipitation falls as this afternoon, the trails may not be in great condition later. Get your hike in now!

The ice has started, and then stopped.
There are millions of tiny balls of ice all over the universe.
Other than being kinda nifty and kinda cool it isn't much of a big deal as yet.
Perhaps when it starts back up again it will amount to something.

Cascades and weather conditions

At 9:30 am, the temperature here is 41 degrees. The warmth is making the snow cover soggy.
The barometer continues to fall, though we've had no rain that's measurable yet. The forecast calls for showers on and off all day.
The Cascades have a coating of ice, but the water is burbling under it.
