More rain

We had more rain come in overnight. Added to that from the end of last week--we recorded 2.4 inches on Friday alone--we may well have a stream here for awhile. Fall generally is the rainy season in New England, and last week and this appear to be bearing that out.
We just managed at noon to struggle above 50 degrees--we're now hitting 54 at 2 pm--so it is chilly!
The barometer is at 29.38 inches and steady.
Cloudy (though not currently raining) skies
Needless to say, all the rain has knocked down leaves. We've got plenty of beech and hickory leaves down here. The maples are just starting to turn.

Clear!

We've got a sparkling fall day out there this morning! The remnants of Nicole have left us with a bit of a Cascades and stream, wet trails, and lots of leaves down. But it's clear and going to remain so.

Snowy morning

The most startling aspect of this morning's weather is of course the snowfall, which contrary to all expectations, actually stuck! It's an odd scene out there today: having a few leaves on the trees for the first snowfall isn't unusual, but we still have entire trees that haven't even turned yet!

Golden day

The light is golden under the leaves today...beautiful out there right now!
It is COLD, though, so wrap up! While we did not have a frost here at the Lodge (the trees are good insulation), there was one out on Olean Street. It is definitely fall!

We've got some activity next door at the proposed development today; it looks like they're moving logs around.

SNOW!

(no, not here! But did anyone else see the cars coming down Pleasant Street this morning with a dusting on their windshields? It looks like Paxton had some of that precipitation as snow yesterday!)

More trees

We put in some blue spruce along the southern bound of Cascading Waters today, mostly to block off the line-of-sight between the Lodge and the new development (slowly) going in next door.

Beautiful fall light

The light here at the Lodge is changing. With so many leaves that are yellow, the light that's coming through is golden.

We have the WISE group coming this morning with Mass Audubon for a hike in the Cascades. They've got lovely weather for it!

The beech and chesnut trees are just starting to turn. The maples, except for a few more spectacular examples along the road, are here struggling with any color at all: they've turned yellow with brown spots, and are the leaves are curling at the edges. Anyone know what's up with that? Too much rain?

Morning fog

That morning fog over the pond and other water (we caught it over the Charles River this morning) is great, isn't it?
